What the station's canon holds on this case.
Nothing here spoils a case you haven't heard — banked cases aren't on these pages at all. Horizon · Case 064
The detective worked a case backward from a settlement-house ceremony where a woman named Neva was handed to the law and the house's beloved almoner, Merrit, received a standing ovation for his charity work, with the dead man being Crane, a blackmailer who never once demanded money. Layer by layer the truth peeled: Crane had witnessed Merrit call a false all-clear up a smoke-filled stairwell for a bribe decades earlier, leaving children to die in the fire, and had spent years pressing Merrit to confess rather than profit; Neva, who loved Merrit and believed him a good man, killed Crane to silence him before she ever learned what she was silencing. The detective closed it clean — killer caught, no innocent hanged, every box checked — and walked out into the heat while the applause for Merrit still carried through the open door, the case a win that tasted like ash because the whole warm room had just forgiven the unforgivable thing in the very first breath.

Alive, off the force since Case 013, his last move left in Flynn of the Chronicle's keeping. Returned in Case 043 to call in an old dock-beat loyalty the badge can no longer back; walked away believing a debt was settled clean, not knowing what the detective…
