The Name He Stepped Into
What the station's canon holds on this case.
Nothing here spoils a case you haven't heard — banked cases aren't on these pages at all. Horizon · Case 064
A woman came to Flynn looking for a man who walked out on an errand and never came back, and the thread she handed him unspooled into the courthouse afternoon Flynn had never been able to stop replaying — the missing man was the stranger who had stepped between a gun and an innocent, and the clean money that paid for his silence ran straight into a civic apparatus too tidy to leave fingerprints. Marchetti confirmed the second buyer was never his and warned Flynn that the machine upstairs had already noticed someone pulling on a dead nobody's thread. Flynn won the name whole, but a name made the debt heavier, not lighter — the man it belonged to was in the ground, the machine that sent him was untouched, and Flynn walked out of the denouement carrying more than he'd carried in.
