The decoy worked, but it cost the detective his only wire into the dark — Frankie went to ground, Marchetti spent a quiet favor to look the other way, and every player who mattered now knew the detective's name. The witness lived, but the man at the top was watching, and the question Brogan left behind was the one that couldn't be answered: whose name gets crossed off next.
